On Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 10:00am, the United Methodist Women of Gethsemane United Methodist Church will hold our annual Women’s Day Celebration. This year’s theme is Women of God: Welcoming All and we want to make sure YOU are in attendance!
The dynamic and uplifting Reverend Dr. Kecia Ford, pastor of Sharp Street United Methodist Church in Sandy Spring, Maryland will bring the word of God during the worship service as we celebrate all women in our community. For more than three decades, the United Methodist Women at Gethsemane United Methodist Church have worked in Capitol Heights and the greater Prince George’s County community to turn faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.
Locally, our unit of the United Methodist Women provides Christmas gifts, school supplies, and toiletries to children in need at Prince George’s Women’s Shelter and Capitol Heights Elementary School; prepares meals for college students at local colleges; contributes educational scholarships for Prince George’s County high school graduates; and supports the spiritual and ethical development of church and community youth through donations of time, talent, and resources. On the national and global scene, we participate in direct action rallies-calling for economic justice and end to racial discrimination in some of the most deprived and underserved communities in the United States.
We help provide care packages and raise funds for medical supplies for individuals threatened by malaria in sub-Saharan Africa and relief supply kits for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Our annual Women’s Day Celebration serves as our group’s largest fundraiser and helps offset the cost of mission projects and student scholarships. Consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help sustain the four decades long work of faith, hope and love in action. Not only does your contribution help support these outstanding programs, but it provides the seeds for future outreach programs.

Pre‐Women’s Day Luncheon

Come fellowship with the women of Gethsemane United Methodist Church for our annual Pre-Women’s Day Luncheon at Copper Canyon Restaurant, 9300 Taj Lane, Glenarden, MD – Woodmore Town Center. During this time we recognize the contribution of our members to the greater community. The cost is $25.00, payable to Gethsemane UMW before March 29, 2015. Please plan to attend and bring a friend!
